School Advisory Committee (SAC)

President: Michelle Vandepas

Responsibilities include:

• assessing building strengths and needs
• reviewing budget and spending
• reviewing building priorities and goals
• completing an annual review of the School Improvement Plan (SIP)
• publishing an annual report to the school community on achievements met in the SIP.

SAC Notes

Last year, the SAC oversaw the purchase of 2 Apple Mobile Learning Labs.  They were instrumental in getting the fourth and fifth primary classes as well as for getting approval for a sixth grade and Spanish instruction for all students.  Some of you have expressed interest in getting a Montessori middle school.  This is the committee for you, but they need your support.  Please contact Principal Brilliant if you are interested.

Last year’s CSAP scores showed significant growth.   88% of our 3rd graders scored Proficient and Advanced.  This is a 13% increase over last year’s results! Congratulations need to go out to all of our teachers, tutors, students and their parents.

The SAC is also proud to report the all of the goals set forth in the School Improvement Plan for this year have been met. The SIP for next year will be made in the fall. Based on the initial release of our 3rd grade CSAP scores, we anticipate the Buena Vista will make its Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets for the year. A complete reporting of the academic growth of our students will be forthcoming in the fall.

The meeting time for the SAC next year is on the third Thursday of each month at 2:30 PM.
